Description
Students explore the biological, chemical, and physical components of stream and watershed structure and function. Lectures focus on the processes of stream formation and the factors that control sediment run-off, nutrient cycling, species abundance and distribution. Particular emphasis is placed on the role that the upland watershed plays in the determination of stream function. Laboratory exercises focus on the field observation and analysis of the on-campus watershed and stream as well as a comparison of this system to additional off-site watersheds. Prerequisite: BIO 234
