Description

Food forests are productive landscapes designed to mimic a woodland ecosystem. Fruit and nut trees, shrubs, vines, herbs, vegetables, and animals are incorporated into a landscape that looks and functions like a vibrant, natural ecosystem, but yields high-value food, fuel, fiber, medicine, and other benefits for its human inhabitants. In this workshop, students will learn the ecological and agricultural theory behind creating a productive food forest and will have a hands-on opportunity to be involved in implementing a one-acre food forest in Washburn WI. Much of this course will be experiential, so be ready to get your hands dirty! Course fee covers food costs for this workshop. Covers the ecological and vocational Wellness dimensions.
