Description

Psychology of Sport performance: The Mental Aspects of Athletics. This workshop will discuss the basics of sport psychology and how an understanding of this topic can greatly benefit athletic performance. Students will be taught several key components of sport psychology including (but not limited to) types of goals and how to create goals that will lead to a successful end result, achievement theory, the types of goal orientation and their pros and cons, how performance is affected by the arousal curve, why certain types of people are drawn to certain types of sports, how to discover an athlete's optimal state of mind during competition, and how certain personality traits will affect performance. This workshop will be approximately half lecture and half discussion. The plan for this workshop is to present students with information, explain the information, show them how to apply the information, and let them suggest ideas for how to use it.
